Why Scaling Too Fast Can Break Your SaaS
Yes, you read the title right. When you first launch your SaaS you shouldn’t try to promote it too aggressively, Once you’ve finished building your SaaS I know we all want to Launch on a 100 Different Directories, Product Hunt, Write Articles, Post on social media and do all of these things.
This is a really bad Idea (been there, done that). Before I tell you what you should do, let me first tell you why you shouldn’t do this. When you first launch your product it’s not going to be perfect (even if you think it’s perfect I can assure you that it is far from perfect).
If you promote it too aggressively at this “stage” you’re basically wasting all your resources on a product that may not even has product market fit yet. Of course you will probably get 100s or even thousands of visitors in the first couple of days following a launch assuming you did a decent amount of volume for marketing but your landing page may not even be optimised yet, it may look good but it’s probably not maximising conversions in every way possible. You haven’t listened to customer feedback so your product may not even fit the expectations of your target audience. When you do this it’s almost as if you let all these visitors who came to your site let go to waste.
What you should do instead is launch to small group of people at once, this could be by doing a few posts on X, reddit or even linkedin. You should market it only to a dozen people at once and then you should talk to them and work on your product based on their feedback.
Once you’ve done all these improvements from the first few users you can try to market it a slightly larger audience and then do the same, talk to the new users and improve your product based on feedback. Once you’ve done this 3-4 times you’ll have a much more improved product that solves the pain points of your target audience.
Tip: If you’d like to find out what your target audiences pain points are and what features your market is lacking go to Profiolio.com to quickly get an analysis of your SaaS idea.
When you market your product this way after launch you can actually improve everything and make sure it fits the market’s needs. Once you’ve done this you can start to aggressively promote your product so you know all the visitors you bring in are not going to waste.
